I was more than a bit skeptical about one of Jude's early birthday gifts because there are so many "no-mess" art toys on the market these days. This disturbing trend just screams "our child is sooo inconveniently messy and we don't have enough Prozac on hand to deal with it".
Because it was a present, I decided to withhold judgement until we gave the Aquadoodle mat a shot and I'm glad I did. It's pretty cool.
The cloth mat comes with a refillable water pen that is used for drawing, but stamps dipped in water work great too. We're going to try paint brushes next. Images appear when the water hits the mat, then disappear in 30 seconds or so after drying.
Given that I spend an inordinate amount of time lying on the couch, this has been my Slug Girl dream come true. I can spread the mat out on the CARPETED floor and survey my little artist from a horizontal vantage point without any meds. I'm stockpiling those for potty training.
Available from Amazon.com.
Another perk of this one? Drool makes a great writing tool! We found this out accidentally, of course. :)
