Let's face it, some things are just best when made by hand. Ice cream, for example. I have never had store-bought that rivaled my Grandma Peggy's homemade vanilla. That taste is my quintessential summertime memory and forever embedded in my brain right next to the smell of suntan lotion.
So while I write a lot about products that you have to buy, that is merely because hip homemade products aren't really geared toward children. Plus, they are damned hard to find!!!
You can hardly imagine my surprise and delight when I stumbled upon The Toymaker website. I'm not even going to try to edit this post. I can't because I found so many unbelievable, beautiful ideas and templates for paper toys you make yourself. For FREE...
Yes, for free. Artist Marilyn Scott-Waters is a Bodhisattva, I'm convinced. Love her!!
My favorites are:
- Old Fashioned Pinwheel
- Cootie Catcher
- Tooth Fairy Gazebo
- Folding Circus Book
- Spinners (Thaumatropes or Turning Wonders)
- Bug Box
- Marble Mice
The nostaglia is so rich and creamy, I can almost taste it!
Available at The Toymaker.
